Mon Bijou
This knockout space in Flinders Lane is a jewel box of a venue, perfectly suited to an intimate, chic French product launchfor cosmetics, clothing or accessories, and (considering the French translation for bijou in English is) jewellery.

Mon Bijou is set over two levels, which comprise an exclusive private room with floor-to-ceiling windows offers a 270 degree view of the Melbourne CBD along with a jaw-breakingly stunning ceiling of geometric silver, gold and pink mirrors, and luxurious furnishings, as well as a penthouse covered outdoor deck with a swimming pool.

It clearly has a licence to party with 1am closing time during the week and 3am on weekends.

The private room has capacity for up to 110 guests, while the outdoor deck will fit 70.

Bowery Locksmith
If your client's brand has a New York connection and a grittier clientele, then the industrially-styled Bowery Locksmith in Swan Street, Richmond might be the venue "key" you're looking for. 

It takes its name from The Bowery which is located in lower Manhattan, New York City. The street that gives The Bowery its name was once the road to Peter Stuyvesant's bouwerij, or farm.

The Bowery was once notorious for its saloons, petty criminals, and derelicts but with the high cost of real estate has become gentrified.

The space which offers a capacity of 50-180 guests, is divided into the bar area and a lounge via a series of mesh screens which are curiously reminiscent of the chicken wire cage protecting out-of-town singers Jim Belushi and Dan Ackroyd from drunken patrons in The Blues Brothers!

If a trip to Hollywood is out of the question, bring a slice of Tinseltown to Melbourne by booking your event at Backlot Studios.

This space - for a maximum of 150 guests - is clearly perfect as a space for companies connected with films and documentaries, video production, animation production, motion graphics, corporate video production, commercial advertisements, infomercials, interactive video content, and online video production.

Located in Haig Street, Southbank, Backlot Studios offers a 78-seat cinema, digital projection from laptop, incredible surround sound and Xbox and PS3 gaming on the big screen.

Bookings are typically for a maximum of 3 hours, from 8.30am-1.00am seven days a week. 

Mama Rumaan [ed: now closed]

There's not a cliched Arabian tent in sight at this modern, highly rated Middle Eastern canteen on the Central Pier in Melbourne's Docklands, with perhaps only the enormous silver hookah on the table on the terrace outside to hint at the cuisine inside.

Two-thirds of Mama Rumaan's dishes are vegetarian, vegan and/or gluten-free, making this easy for all your clients to find something tasty to eat.

You can book the terrace for 50 seated guests or for 90 cocktails, the dining room for 60 at a sit-down function, 110 for cocktails or the entire venue: seated capacity for 110, for cocktails 200.

Hophaus
If you've got a German brand or destination to promote, you're sure to find an appropriate entertaining space within Hophauswith eight areas offering capacity for guests from just 12 on the Dining Terrace, to 400 if you book out the entire venue.

Sited on Southgate Avenue, Southbank, Hophaus offers north-facing waterfront views of the Yarra River and iconic Flinders St Station.

Choose from spaces including the semi-private internal Dining Room, the external Dining Terrace, the external Garden Terrace fully covered by retractable awnings, the dedicated cocktail internal space of the Lounge, and the external River Terrace.

The cuisine is German carnivore-friendly as you'd expect, but thankfully, there's not a lederhosen-wearing waiter, nor busty beer wench in sight.

Campari House
Sited on one of Melbourne's best-known laneways, Hardware Lane, Campari House offers you a variety of function space for your Italian-themed product launchover four levels.

The function room on Level One offers space for a range of configurations including communal dining for 24, banquet seating for 70 guests, up to a cocktail party for 110.

The lounge on Level Two can seat 50 for dinner or up to 80 for cocktails.

The Rootop (pictured) is perfect for a cocktail function of up to 100 guests while the the more intimate space of the Soda  Rooftop is designed for a stand-up cocktail event of up to 50.

Campari House is open 12pm til late daily.

Mofo Lounge & Moroccan Lounge
Positioned just off the shopping mecca of Chapel Street is the slightly quieter Greville Street, Prahran. When your guests first arrive, they're sure to think they've got the wrong address as the deceptively plain white exterior looks somewhat residential.

But step inside. On street level is the Mofo Lounge, an airy, long, light-filled space for up to 35 guests with Moroccan lanterns, colourful upholstered ottomans and a hookah.

Upstairs is the Moroccan Lounge, a jewel box of brightly, exotically decorated, interconnecting rooms in orange and emerald with tented ceilings, fireplaces, a private bar, daybeds, coffee tables and sofas, and cafe tables and chairs with even more Moroccan lanterns to create stunning light patterns on the ceilings, floors and walls.

The Moroccan Lounge can be configured for 50 dinner guests or up to 114 cocktail guests. Entertainment options include DJs, belly dancers and tarot card readers.

Denmark House
When it's time to book a venue and your Danish brand client demands you get "hygge" with it, book Denmark House in Little Bourke Street, Melbourne.

Hidden away behind a nondescript brick building, this third floor venue (don't worry, there's a lift!) features 

vaulted ceilings with wooden timber beams, white walls, blond mid-century Scandinavian furniture and frosted glass windows.

Naturally, Denmark House serves Nordic cuisine, Danish craft beers and apparently the largest selection of the Scandinavian spirit, Aquavit, in the Southern Hemisphere.

Take careful note of Denmark House's operating hours - it's not open endlessly like other venues. You can book it for your event from 12-3pm Monday-Tuesday, 12pm til late Wednesday through Friday, but it's closed on weekends. Book the entire space for up to 100 guests for a cocktail party, or 70 for a sit-down dinner.

Kodiak Club [update: permanently closed]
If you represent an Alaskan business, or perhaps your business has a wild, frontier quality to it, Kodiak Club - named after the massive brown bear native to Kodiak islands in southwest Alaska -  might be the right venue for your event.

This Brunswick Street, Fitzroy bar has an unashamedly masculine vibe to it. It serves American whiskies, craft beers and unpretentious, crowd-pleasing bar food.

The bourbon bar downstairs represents the kind of American neighbourhood bar you'd probably enter if you were in Anchorage, Alaska, while you can go all festive fiesta with the Mexican-themed Tequila Bar upstairs.

Hire the downstairs bar for up to 100 standing guests and the Tequila Bar for a drinks party of up to 50, or the entire venue for 140 people.
