How Many Scrabble Tile Placecards Do You Need?
Are you having a geek wedding?
Looking for a fun alternative to placecards?
Why not order Scrabble place cards for your guests?
Hopefully you a) have your confirmed RSVPs to hand and b) you're good at maths because you need to do some counting!
Here's a few things to keep in mind when you want to use Scrabble tiles as placecards.
1. You can fit only 7 letters on a rack
This means you will need create a placecard for certain guests using their nickname or a shortened version of their name, for example, "Kate" instead of "Katherine".
2. There are 100 tiles in a pack of Scrabble
Even if you could use every letter provided in the pack, with up to 7 letters for every guest, at best you would have enough tiles for 14 guests (100 tiles / 7 letters for guest names = 14.2 guest names).
If you have 100 guests, you may need up to 7 x sets.
3. First check the number of consonants you will need
The largest number of consonants provided per letter per set of 100 Scrabble tiles are six each for R, N and T. But there's only 1 x K. Even if you have only 10 guests, but a Nick and a Kate, you'll need at least two sets.
In another example, there are 4 x Ss per 100 tiles. Jessica is a very popular name so you would use all 4 "S" tiles for just two Jessicas attending your wedding.
4. You need more vowels than you think
There are, for example, 9 x As in a pack of 100 tiles. But if you have a guest name like Nathan, this immediately uses up two of your As.
