Mid-Week Wedding Bookings Double in Popularity For 2018
In February 2016, My Wedding Decor surveyed 357 couples to identify the most popular day for wedding.
Saturday was the most popular day, with 53.2% of couples, followed by Friday (14.3%), with Sunday in third place (11.8%).
However, while Monday-Thursday weddings accounted for only 20.1%, the rate of couples getting married mid-week more than doubled from 5.6% in the 2015/2016 financial year to 13.2% in 2016/2017.
In the next nine months to 30 June 2018, 64.5% will marry on a Saturday, with 18.8% wedding on a Friday, 13.3% between Monday to Thursday, while 9.4% have booked a Sunday ceremony.
Of the couples surveyed, of the 16.2% marrying between 1 July to 31 December 2018, 54.4% of these weddings have been booked for a Saturday date, but a surprising 34.1% of weddings are taking place between Monday-Thursday, leaving just 7.6% for a Friday and 3.8% for Sunday weddings.
This suggests that couples have become even more willing to marry mid-week to bring forward their wedding - and to get their venue of choice at a more competitive price.
Marrying mid-week means they don't have to wait months or even years to secure their preferred venue, they can save money on the venue and event hire, get to spend more time with overseas guests, and to have more time to individually style their venue.
